Another Year in Review

December 29, 2014

Commonly stated, and still often hard to believe, another year has quickly passed. In less than a few days, it will be a new year; 2015 to be specific. Therefore, it goes without saying (but I will), that “a year in review” abounds across all media. Here’s my go at my best of 2014.

1. Returned to School – this year I made a strong effort to return to school and obtain my Masters degree. After finding a program that fit strong with my career goals and professional interests, I studied for and took the GRE, applied to the program, and was accepted to the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communication. I’m now a third of the way through the MAMC Web Design and Online Communications program and look forward to graduationg in spring of 2016.

2. Travels Continued – thankfully, I was able to enjoy several short and long trips this year to new destinations. I visited Savannah, Ga., San Antonio and Austin, Texas, and Naples, Fla., all for the first time. Plus, I was able to sail aboard a brand new cruise ship to a new Caribbean port, and take an incredible 11-day Caribbean Cruise in an ultra luxury penthouse aboard my favorite ship.

3. Professional Recognition – with all the work in 2012 and ‘13 for SeaWorld’s Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, we’ve spent the past 12 months submitting our work for awards and recognition. I was proud to have won for my company the 2014 Henry Flagler Award for Best in Mobile Marketing for SeaWorld’s Epic Voyage App. The award recognizes the best in travel and tourism marketing of the state of Florida around the world, and is highly recognized within the industry. Additionally, I was able to receive the award in front of all of my department leadership, including our park president. I’ve never been more proud of our team’s efforts.

4. Work Evolved – after almost exactly three years at the Orlando Parks, I accepted a new position in our Corporate offices within our Interactive Marketing team. The new role is allowing me to get a better understanding of the breadth of our company’s business and overall enterprise operations. I hope this role with strengthen my position further for growth in my company and industry.

What will 2015 bring? I have no idea. I hope to continue school and get ready for my final semester in 2016. With any luck, I’ll be able to travel to new and distant locations. Hey, I might even find someone to tag along with me on the adventures?

May you have a fantastic new year and make the most of 2015!
